HOW IT WAS BUILT

Most MEC plans start with a benefit design and end with a rate. This one started the other way around.

A broker kept running into the same problem. His clients ran hourly, high-turnover teams. Major medical quotes came back impossible. The MEC plans already on the market were thin enough that employees never used them.

So we asked him what his clients actually needed and what they could realistically pay. Then we built it with Mutual of Omaha to hit that number, and priced it the way a nonprofit can, without earnings going to shareholders.

That is why $234 covers six benefits instead of one.

The MEC Six-Pack satisfies the employer requirement to offer minimum essential coverage. It does not satisfy the minimum value or affordability requirements and it is not major medical. Medical, dental, and vision are provided by EMI Health. Hospital indemnity, accident, and critical illness are provided by Mutual of Omaha. The $50 health screening benefit is included on the accident and critical illness plans only. Hospital indemnity is subject to a 6/6 pre-existing condition provision for employees who enroll after their initial eligibility period. This is a summary only. See plan documents for full terms, limits, and exclusions.

QUESTIONS

Common questions about the MEC Six-Pack

What is a MEC Six-Pack?

One employer-paid plan with six benefits. MEC Enhanced, dental, and vision from EMI Health cover everyday care. Hospital Indemnity, Accident, and Critical Illness from Mutual of Omaha pay cash directly to your employee when something serious happens. The Accident and Critical Illness plans each pay $50 when an employee completes a covered health screening, so the plan gives something back in a normal year too.

One package, one bill, one rate of $234 per employee per month.

Does the Six-Pack meet our coverage requirement?

Yes. MEC Enhanced satisfies the requirement to offer minimum essential coverage. It does not satisfy the separate minimum value or affordability standards, and it is not major medical. It is designed for the part of your workforce that major medical prices out.

Do we have to offer all six benefits? Can we swap any out?

Yes to the first, no to the second, and that is what makes the rest of it work. The Six-Pack is one fixed plan. That is why we can enroll a group with an application and a census, with no underwriting, and hold $234 for two years. Custom builds mean quoting, underwriting, and a slower start.

Who is eligible?

Employees who work 20 or more hours a week. You can set a higher hours requirement for your group if you want to. You also decide whether to cover legal guardians and domestic partners, the same way you would on a major medical plan. W-2 employees only. 1099 contractors are not eligible. Everyone who enrolls is accepted. All six benefits are guaranteed issue, with no health questions and no medical exams.

What does my team have to do after we set it up?

Add and remove people through EMI Central, the same as any other plan. You get one invoice a month covering all six benefits and one number to call. There is no second carrier to reconcile and no separate supplemental billing.

Who do employees call?

EMI Health Customer Service at (800) 662-5851 for medical, dental, vision, ID cards, and enrollment questions.

Mutual of Omaha handles hospital indemnity, accident, and critical illness claims. Both numbers are on the enrollment materials, so your team does not become the help desk.

What happens when an employee leaves?

Hospital Indemnity, Accident, and Critical Illness are portable. An employee who leaves can keep that coverage and pay the premium directly, subject to plan terms. Ask your EMI Health representative about continuation on the medical, dental, and vision benefits.

Can we offer the Six-Pack alongside major medical?

Yes, and many employers do. It is common to put hourly staff on the Six-Pack and salaried staff on major medical. The major medical plan does not have to be with EMI Health. If you want both from us, say so when you request a quote.

Can we move our current MEC plan to the Six-Pack?

Yes. Existing EMI Health MEC groups can move at renewal. Contact your broker or account manager to start.

Where do I find the full benefit details?

The one-page overview covers every copay, allowance, and payout across all six benefits, plus the group guidelines.

Click to download, or ask your EMI Health representative for the full plan documents.

Is the Six-Pack available in my state?

The Six-Pack is available to employer groups in Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Texas, and Utah.

It is a limited release. If your group is somewhere else, use the form above and we will let you know when it reaches your state.
