Effective Date vs. Billing Date

When you enroll an Arizona client, you'll choose their effective date — when coverage begins. Their billing date — when their card is first charged — works separately. Here's how both work.

Choosing the effective date

At enrollment, you'll select from two options in the dropdown:

  • The first of the upcoming month — fastest start, best for clients who need coverage right away
  • The first of the month after that — useful when a client is switching from another carrier and wants no overlap or gap

Coverage always begins on the first of a month, never mid-month.

How billing is set up

You'll enter your client's credit card during enrollment. The card is verified at enrollment but not charged until close to the effective date. From there, the card is set up for auto-pay each month.

When the first charge happens

It depends on when you complete the enrollment, not which effective date you chose:

  • Enrolled between the 1st and 25th of the month — Card is charged on or around the 25th of the same month.
  • Enrolled between the 26th and the end of the month — Card is charged on the first Monday of the following month.

What your client receives

  • A confirmation email at enrollment (you're cc'd)
  • A payment receipt from billing@emihealth.com once their first payment processes
  • How to set up billing portal access to manage payments — a separate login from their "My EMI Health" account, which is for benefit details

Quick reference

Enrollment date First card charge
Between the 1st and 25th Around the 25th of the same month
Between the 26th and end of month First Monday of the following month

Waiving Waiting Periods

To be considered, a waiver request must be submitted within 90 days of enrollment. Each case is reviewed individually.

Applicable waiting periods may be waived based on what the prior coverage allows.

To request a waiting period waiver for your client, please submit a Certificate of Prior Coverage with the following manditory information:

  1. Coverage start and end dates
  2. Names of individuals covered (must match the enrollment timeline)
  3. Plan name and carrier — the certificate must be:
    • On the carrier’s letterhead, or
    • In an official email from the prior carrier

Important Updates

Network Naming

What Changed

EMI Health dental network names now include a dash and letter to support nationwide provider access across all states.

EMI Health dental ID card showing updated network name format

Advantage → Advantage-A, Advantage-C, Advantage-D
Premier → Premier-A, Premier-C, Premier-D

Each letter represents the out-of-state wrap network. The logo indicates the network.

How to Guide Your Clients

Screenshot of EMI Health dental provider search tool

When helping members search providers:

Focus on the main network name
Advantage-D → treat as Advantage
Premier-D → treat as Premier

When using Provider Search:

Select the full network name (e.g., Advantage-D)
The system will return the correct providers based on location

During the transition, you may still see “Advantage” or “Premier” in the drop-down—either selection will return the same provider list.

No changes to plan benefits or provider networks in your state—the letter simply reflects out-of-state access and a standardized network structure.
